Thangam speaking in Parliament about the Domestic Abuse Bill 2019
Thangam speaking in Parliament about the Domestic Abuse Bill 2019

Before entering Parliament I worked for a charity that provides specialist support for women and children experiencing domestic violence. Ending domestic violence and abuse is something that Parliament must strive to achieve. Since becoming an MP in 2015 it has been one of my priorities to change and enact legislation towards that goal.

As part of this work, I founded and chair the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse.

Much of my work has focused on preventing violence and abuse. In March 2017 I convinced the government to make Relationship Education (RE) in primary schools and Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) in secondary schools mandatory in England. My work also fed into the Domestic Abuse Bill.
