Drug and alcohol law reform
During the first half of 2017, I took part in the groundbreaking and controversial BBC One documentary series Drugsland, filmed in Bristol. During the making of this programme I investigated how drugs and alcohol affect not just users, or their families and friends, but all of us. Throughout the filming process I reflected on the implications for public policy.
In 2019 I set up the Labour campaign for Drug Policy Reform, together with Jeff Smith MP, to how we can change our drug laws so they are fit for the 21st Century.
Our countries drug and alcohol laws are out of date and need urgent reform. I believe that we need to move to a model where we reduce the harm of taking legal and illegal substances. This also includes more public awareness of the negative health effects of legal substances like alcohol.
