The last five days have been so distressing for students, parents, and teachers. Whilst I welcome Gavin Williamson’s decision to allow centre-assessment grades, I am concerned about the government’s inadequacy in handling this situation, the failure to offer meaningful solutions in the days after students received their grades, and the questions that still remain which need answering.
This week I have spoken to students, parents, and senior leaders from schools in Bristol West. I was seriously concerned that the government did not take warnings that this system would be unfair – and the response from constituents is evidence of this. I will continue to represent you on this matter, and I wrote to Gavin Williamson today to ask him to give the clarity and support students need to receive the opportunities they deserve.
