Businesses like Airbus are becoming increasingly worried about the woeful state of the government’s Brexit negotiations. Even before our leading negotiator walked out on Sunday, Airbus warned that the company will leave the UK if its business is negatively affected by post-Brexit trading rules. The lack of plan for the aviation sector, and the economy in general, is making this scenario more and more likely.
Yesterday I put this to Defence Minister Guto Bebb, asking why they cannot reassure this industry. Unfortunately, he completely sidestepped the question. I was not asking about the Air Combat Strategy, but a plan to protect the thousands of aviation jobs in Bristol that rely on fast and frictionless trade with the EU.
I will continue to put pressure on the Government to deliver on Brexit, even as expectations plummet. Whether you voted leave or remain, you deserve better than this.
