Today I met Richard Ratcliffe, husband of Nazanin Zaghari Ratcliffe who has been wrongly detained in Iran for more than five years. He is on day 16 of his hunger strike, making this desperate protest to shake the government into action and bring her home.

It is two years since Nazanin saw her daughter.

Tulip Siddiq, my colleague who is the family’s MP, has kept this campaign going in Parliament and I support her. As Shadow Leader of the House of Commons, I have brought Nazanin’s case up in the Chamber. There are things the government could do. Together with Tulip and other Labour colleagues, I will keep pushing the Foreign Secretary to do everything she can to bring Nazanin home.
