The current guidance about choirs is inadequate and has left choirs unable to sing together. As an amateur musician and former professional, I know how much joy choirs bring and it seems to be absurd that thousands of sports fans can sing in a stadium but a choir cannot rehearse.

My colleague Jo Stevens, Shadow Secretary of State for Culture and Sport, raised this with the Secretary of State recently and I’ve also pushed the government on this in Business Questions with the Leader of the House in my role as Shadow Leader of the House.  I have written to the Secretary of State for Culture to ask him to change this guidance as soon as possible.
