Over the last three years I’ve campaigned alongside the people of Bristol West for the UK to remain in the European Union. My experience in Parliament as an Opposition Whip through a time of national crisis has meant I’ve gained support from other Members of Parliament and worked behind the scenes to keep us in the European Union – three times – when we were due to leave on 29 March, 12 April, and 31 October. This is why I am standing as the Remain MP for Bristol West.
We need to go back to the public with a new vote on a deal which is based on Labour principles to preserve environmental protections and workers’ rights, versus Remaining in the EU – which I have always believed is the best deal.
The so-called Remain Alliance doesn’t get us anywhere because Labour is the only party that can – and will, if elected to government – offer a route to a referendum. As I have said before, and I will say again, I will be campaigning to remain in the EU as I have done since the referendum in 2016.
