A new report by City University London and Equality Now has shown that Bristol has one of the highest rates of female genital mutilation (FGM) in the country, with up to 1.6% (3,500) of women and girls in the city having undergone the procedure, a large number of them being in the Bristol West constituency.
Many young girls are still at risk of being taken abroad for FGM, particularly in the months of July and August. I recently spoke to the Bristol Post about this appalling practice and what can be done to combat it: http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/Thousands-women-suffering-FGM-Bristol-according/story-27464576-detail/story.html
