Thangam speaking in Parliament about school cuts.
Thangam speaking in Parliament about school cuts.

I frequently hear from concerned parents, carers, and staff about the state of their schools and the need for more funding. I try to visit all state-maintained schools in the constituency as often as possible. In these visits, I always leave inspired by the hardworking staff – yet it is clear that they need more funding. This is true from nursery schools to further education colleges.

Real-terms budget cuts have real effects on children learning. Headteachers, parents and carers in Bristol tell me that these cuts often force schools to reduce help for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), leaving some children struggling to keep pace with their peers as a result. This is not good enough.

Education funding is one of my priorities as an MP and something I try to talk about in parliament as frequently as possible. Here you will find links to some of my recent blog posts which detail what I’ve been doing to hold the government to account on school funding, including challenging the Prime Minister.
