Many of you will have watched the heated exchanges in the House of Commons on Wednesday 25 September and been shocked at some of the language and behaviour used by Boris Johnson following the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision that his decision to prorogue Parliament was unlawful.

Having listened for over two hours I rose to challenge him. I felt that he was using classic controlling and bullying behaviour, including acting as if he’s above the law, trying to make fellow parliamentarians disbelieve their own minds, belittling them, using fear-inducing language, listening to no one – all to get what he wants. That is profoundly bad for our democracy.

I asked for an apology to the people of Bristol West, who didn’t want Parliament to be prorogued in the first place and the Supreme Court proved they were right. No apology was forthcoming from the Prime Minister – he simply repeated that we need to ‘get on and do’ our departure from the EU, with no indication as to how that would be achieved.
