Sam's Post: lgbt+ inclusive sex education

Hi, we are the first time voters for Labour in the Bristol West constituency! We’ve set up this blog so we can talk a little bit about some of the issues that we care about to young people in a similar position to us. Hopefully you will find it interesting and helpful for when the time comes to put a cross on your ballot paper!

As a gay British youth, sex education felt, at best, irrelevant, and, at worse, exclusionary. The need for a more effective sex ed policy is by no means hidden, as HIV rates continue to rise amongst MSMs (men who have sex with men).

From both a perspective of health and of relationships, current sex ed policies are undeniably outdated for our lgbt+ youths. Thangam Debbonaire is keen to change this, and her expertise in the field speak for themselves. I hope that the next generation of lgbt+ youths, in Bristol and nationally, grow up with an inclusive sex ed policy, and Thangam Debbonaire is willing and able to bring this about.
