I am endorsing Mark Bradshaw as Labour’s candidate for Mayor of Bristol.
I know that he loves Bristol, he’s shown he understands how to make it work better for all of us and because he is an experienced Labour campaigner who puts in the work.
Ever since I first met Mark I’ve been impressed by his obvious devotion to our city.
In the last few years in the current Mayor’s cabinet, he’s demonstrated it by doing the hard work: he’s had to compromise and negotiate in order to make Bristol work better for all of us.
I’ve seen him make considerable personal sacrifice in the interests of the city.
Mark understands that the big stuff is vital and sometimes the most important concerns for people are the everyday things: the rubbish on their streets, problems with the landlord or lack of social housing, or the struggle to get to work on time with a gridlocked transport system.
Even more importantly he knows how to get these fixed.
He’s already helped bring down our bus fares, including fares for young people. He’s worked out how we can have a smart travel card. There’s an office block in Brislington, which, thanks to Mark’s expertise, will be turned into housing for families who badly need it.
He is committed to helping small business and to seeing that basic services are done well. He understands that overflowing bins in a city where recycling rates are dropping is just not acceptable.
These are just a few examples of what Mark has done for Bristol but is often too modest to claim credit for.
Mark has shown me that he understands what is involved in campaigning and that he knows just what a difference valuing and supporting members and supporters makes to a campaign work.
We’re going to be standing 70 councillors across Bristol and we need a Mayoral candidate that will knock on doors with council candidates and MPs and answer concerns on doorsteps across the city.
Bristol has had to put up with a Mayor for whom his personal profile appears to be more important than the city.
Bristol and Bristolians deserve a Mayor for whom it will always be all about the people city, not the Mayor.
A practical Labour man, with practical solutions who puts people first – that’s Mark Bradshaw.
