Jo Cox MP

“I am devastated by the murder of Jo Cox. We were both part of the new intake of MPs in May 2015 and I remember well the excitement and sense of responsibility we both felt as we first took our seats in the House of Commons.

“I have lost a colleague and friend; Brendan and the children have lost a wife and mother; and the whole country has lost a committed campaigner with a long record of public service. Whether for Oxfam, or in representing the people of Batley and Spen, she fought tirelessly to help the vulnerable, the suffering and those in need.

“Jo wasn’t afraid of hard decisions or hard work and she made an immediate and lasting impact at Westminster, particularly in highlight the horrors of the war in Syria. I particularly admired and valued her determination to protect and help refugees.

“Jo died doing our job. I’m heartbroken for her family and send them my love. I’ll miss her terribly.”
