Fatim's Post: getting my voice heard

Hi, we are the first time voters for Labour in the Bristol West constituency! We’ve set up this blog so we can talk a little bit about some of the issues that we care about to young people in a similar position to us. Hopefully you will find it interesting and helpful for when the time comes to put a cross on your ballot paper!

I personally am unable to vote in the coming election. However, after hearing Thangam speak at our sixth form’s hustings I felt that the values that she upholds best represents the direction I want my local community to take.

For the most part I feel disconnected with politics and I rarely feel that my voice as a young muslim woman from a BME background is heard. My interest in representation and understanding that every group in our local community NEEDS to be represented is what has drawn me to Thangam’s campaign. Her work in the field of domestic violence and passion to ensure that PSHE gives young people information about issues such as consent, gender inequality and domestic violence is why I want Thangam as the Bristol West MP.
